Preactive IT Delivers Network Reliability and Full-Service Managed IT for G&G Enterprises

A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE IN OUR IT

"Have you ever heard the saying, 'Everything is fine, we're fine… meanwhile everything is on fire'? That perfectly describes our very first day onboarding with Preactive IT Solutions. Without missing a beat, their team jumped in, troubleshot the issue, and had us fully back up and running by the end of the day. Our experience with Preactive IT Solutions has been nothing short of great, and we are confident we made the right choice partnering with them."

Director of Human Resources

BACKGROUND

Founded in 1986, G&G Enterprises has grown into one of South Texas's established general contractors. Headquartered in Beaumont, with additional offices in Orange and Port Arthur, the company has spent nearly four decades building across the region's financial institutions, worship spaces, healthcare facilities, retail centers, K-12 schools, and government buildings. Guided by what the company calls "The G&G Way" - a process-managed, quality-driven, customer-focused approach built on integrity, trust, safety, and quality - G&G has built its reputation on reliable execution across a broad and demanding project portfolio.

Like most construction operations, G&G relies on a stable network and phone system to keep field crews, project managers, and the office connected. A firewall outage in the middle of a project doesn't just mean an IT headache - it means lost connectivity for job costing, communications, and site coordination at exactly the wrong moment.

THE CHALLENGE

The main obstacles G&G faced before partnering with Preactive IT were:

  • An Unreliable Firewall: The previous firewall's configuration repeatedly corrupted, causing it to fail without warning - and each failure meant a wait for on-site diagnosis and hardware replacement.
  • No Outage Visibility: The existing setup provided no notifications when the firewall went offline or when the office lost power or internet, so neither G&G nor Preactive IT knew about a problem until someone noticed connectivity had dropped.
  • An Inaccessible Network Controller: G&G's wireless access points and switches were managed through a separate software controller Preactive IT couldn't access, leaving both sides working blind.
  • A One-Person IT Department: G&G's entire IT function - helpdesk included - was handled by a single in-house IT person, with much of the day-to-day system administration falling to the Human Resources team. There was no formal ticketing, no service-level commitment, and no dedicated security monitoring in place.

THE SOLUTION

Drawing on more than two decades of experience delivering managed IT exclusively to construction, engineering, and manufacturing companies, Preactive IT redesigned G&G's network and power infrastructure around redundancy, automated alerting, and shared visibility - and layered in a complete managed services model to support the business as a whole.

Key Features of the Solution:

  • High-Availability Firewall Replacement: The failing firewall was replaced with a redundant, high-availability firewall pair, configured so the secondary unit acts as a live spare, ready to take over automatically if the primary fails.
  • Redundant, Load-Balanced Power Protection: Two new UPS units were installed to address frequent power interruptions, with a third UPS dedicated exclusively to the segmented VoIP network so a power event in one area doesn't take down phone service too.
  • Proactive Offline Alerting: Both firewalls are now monitored so Preactive IT is notified automatically the moment either device goes offline, rather than waiting for G&G to report a problem.
  • Client-Facing Network Visibility: G&G was set up with read-only access to Preactive IT's network management portal, giving the team the ability to check network and firewall status themselves at any time.
  • Unified Device Management: G&G's existing wireless access points and switches were brought under a single management interface alongside the new firewall, giving Preactive IT full visibility and control across the network for the first time.
  • Company-Wide Managed Services Onboarding: Preactive IT onboarded G&G's roughly 60 users onto a full managed services model - a new backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solution to protect the server environment, and a layered security monitoring suite including antivirus, email filtering, and endpoint intrusion detection and prevention. G&G's help desk moved from a single in-house generalist to a full support team backed by formal ticketing and defined response-time commitments.

THE RESULT

The new network and managed services model transformed both reliability and day-to-day support at G&G. Key results included:

  • A high-availability spare firewall eliminates the single point of failure that caused repeated outages
  • Load-balanced, redundant UPS protection keeps servers and network equipment running through brief power interruptions, with the VoIP network protected independently
  • Automatic offline alerts mean Preactive IT knows about an outage the moment it happens, enabling faster triage and dispatch despite the two-hour distance to G&G's Beaumont office
  • Read-only portal access gives G&G their own real-time window into network and firewall status
  • A single in-house IT generalist was replaced with a full help desk team backed by formal ticketing and defined service-level response times, freeing the Human Resources team from day-to-day system administration duties
  • Company-wide security monitoring - antivirus, email filtering, and endpoint intrusion detection and prevention - was added where none existed before
  • A dedicated backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solution now protects the company's server environment

TIME DETAILS & SAVINGS (Estimation)

Before Preactive IT, every firewall failure meant an open-ended wait for on-site diagnosis and hardware replacement, with no automated way to even know an outage was underway. Today, offline alerting notifies Preactive IT immediately, and redundant hardware means most failures never cause downtime at all. The new help desk assures G&G staff can get the support they need, when they need it - improving both staff performance and morale - while regular system patches and updates help servers and desktops stay secure, perform better, and experience less downtime. Overall, the solution shifted G&G from a reactive, wait-and-see posture to a proactive one, with redundancy and monitoring in place to catch and respond to problems before they become extended outages.

THE CONCLUSION

By replacing a failure-prone firewall with a high-availability pair, adding redundant load-balanced power protection, and onboarding G&G onto a full managed services model - complete with a responsive help desk, company-wide security monitoring, and a dedicated backup and disaster recovery solution - Preactive IT gave G&G Enterprises an IT environment they can rely on. What started as a network reliability fix grew into a complete foundation for how G&G's team works day to day, from faster support response to stronger protection against the threats and outages that used to catch them off guard.
