Preactive IT Delivers Network Reliability and Full-Service Managed IT for a Texas General Contractor
A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE IN OUR IT
“Have you ever heard the saying, ‘Everything is fine, we’re fine… meanwhile everything is on fire’? That perfectly describes our experience early on as a full managed IT client with Preactive IT Solutions. When our network hit a critical crisis, their team jumped in without missing a beat, troubleshot the issue, and had us fully back up and running by the end of the day. Partnering with them for our ongoing IT and network needs has given us a completely different level of confidence.”
Director of Human Resources
Texas General Contractor
BACKGROUND
A Texas general contractor with more than 100 employees and decades of experience, the company builds commercial, healthcare, education, and public-sector projects. Its reputation rests on a process-driven, quality-first, safety-minded approach to delivery, which made it a natural fit for Preactive IT’s own process-driven model of managed IT.
Like most construction operations, the company relies on a stable network and phone system to keep field crews, project managers, and the office connected. A network outage in the middle of a project doesn’t just mean an IT headache – it means lost connectivity for job costing, communications, and site coordination at exactly the wrong moment.
THE CHALLENGE
Before moving to a fully managed model, the company’s IT environment had several legacy weaknesses that put daily operations at risk:
- An Unreliable Network Foundation: Core network equipment failed repeatedly and without warning. Each failure meant waiting for on-site diagnosis before service could be restored.
- No Outage Visibility: Nothing alerted anyone when the network went offline or the office lost power or internet. The company and its IT provider only learned of a problem once someone noticed connectivity had dropped.
- Limited Network Visibility: Parts of the network were managed through tools that the IT provider couldn’t fully see, so both sides were working with an incomplete picture.
- A Small, Reactive IT Provider: The company’s previous IT provider was a very small team that worked reactively, so much of the day-to-day system administration fell to internal staff outside of IT. There was no formal ticketing, no service-level commitment, and no dedicated security monitoring in place.
THE SOLUTION

Key Features of the Solution:
- High-Availability Network Protection: The failing network equipment was replaced with a redundant, high-availability design, so a standby system takes over automatically if the primary fails.
- Redundant Power Protection: We installed new power protection to address frequent power interruptions. Critical network and phone systems are now protected separately, so a power event in one area doesn’t take down the others.
- Proactive Offline Alerting: Critical network systems are now monitored around the clock, so Preactive IT is notified automatically the moment a device goes offline, rather than waiting for the company to report a problem.
- Client-Facing Network Visibility: The company’s team was given read-only visibility into network status, so they can check on it themselves at any time.
- Unified Device Management: Preactive IT brought existing network devices under a single management platform, giving it full network visibility and control for the first time.
- Company-Wide Managed Services Onboarding: Preactive IT onboarded the company’s more than 100 employees onto a full managed services model. It included a new backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solution for the server environment and a layered security suite with antivirus, email filtering, and endpoint intrusion detection and prevention. IT support moved from a small, reactive provider to a full help desk team backed by formal ticketing and defined response-time commitments.
THE RESULT
The new network and managed services model transformed both reliability and day-to-day support for the company. Key results included:
- Redundant, high-availability network protection eliminates the single point of failure that caused repeated outages.
- Redundant power protection keeps servers and network equipment running through brief power interruptions, with critical systems protected independently.
- Automatic offline alerts mean Preactive IT knows about an outage the moment it happens, enabling faster triage and dispatch, even when the company’s office is a distance away from Preactive IT’s team.
- Read-only visibility gives the company its own real-time view of network status.
- Reactive, break-fix IT support was replaced with a full help desk team backed by formal ticketing and defined service-level response times, freeing internal staff from day-to-day system administration duties.
- Company-wide security monitoring (antivirus, email filtering, and endpoint intrusion detection and prevention) was added where none existed before.
- A dedicated backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solution now protects the company’s server environment.
THE OPERATIONAL IMPACT
Before Preactive IT, every network failure meant an open-ended wait for on-site diagnosis and repair, with no automated way to even know an outage was underway. Today, offline alerting notifies Preactive IT immediately, and redundant systems are in place to reduce the impact of failures. The new help desk ensures the company’s staff can get the support they need, when they need it, improving both staff performance and morale, while regular system patches and updates help servers and desktops stay secure, perform better, and experience less downtime. Overall, the solution shifted the company from a reactive, wait-and-see posture to a proactive one, with redundancy and monitoring in place to catch and respond to problems before they become extended outages.
THE CONCLUSION
By replacing failure-prone network equipment with a high-availability design, adding redundant power protection, and moving the company to a full managed services model, Preactive IT eliminated critical points of failure across its IT environment. The company now has responsive help desk support, company-wide security monitoring, proactive network management, and dedicated backup and disaster recovery protection.
What started as a network reliability fix grew into a complete foundation for how the team works day-to-day, from faster support response times to stronger protection against the threats and outages that used to catch them off guard.
